Dungarvan Harbour Sailing Club’s John Flynn won the ASM Frostbite league in Kinsale.
Nine wins and one second place out of ten races ensured his total domination of the Laser 4.7 fleet.
John also took the overall sailor of the regatta prize for the best performance in all five fleets
This is a great start to the season for the young Dungarvan sailor who is training with the Irish Squad with Coach Tim Goodbody. Last season John represented Ireland in Germany and Helsinki.
The Irish circuit rewarded John with the very coveted Ulster Championship, the only sailor to take a trophy out of Ulster. John is ranked 3rd in Ireland.
Last year’s winners in the Squib Fleet Alex Ballot and John Quealy fought a good battle but had to settle for second place. James Quealy finished third in his Topaz in the mixed fleet. This is the toughest fleet of all, with boats ranging from the Olympic 49ER the beginner’s Topper Dinghy, a great result well done. Johnny Whelan in the Laser Radial made a good start but the call of the stage intervened, good luck Johnny in the Hairspray show.
Tomas Power sailed his first 4.7 regatta and raised his game with every race scoring a first and two thirds places well done. Kevin Brazel came to observe on Sunday and we look forward to seeing Kevin joining the fleet of 4.7.
